ITS OFFICIAL, FIJI JUDICIARY HAS COUP SUPPORTERS
Outgoing Lautoka High Court Judge, Justice John Connors, has publicly stated what many of us already knew, thatFiji’s judiciary is divided with some unveiling their shadowy faces in support of the 5/12 coup while others stuck to their anti-coup stance.
He even admitted that “some judges spoke to some judges and not to others” and we are sure that you can work that one out i.e whose on which side of the “speaking” bench.
This means that members of the judiciary, being mere mortals as they are, do hold strong personal opinions about coups in coup-coup-land, prompting them to take sides as to which judge they should speak to and which ones they should disown based on their own coup judgement.
So, if our own judiciary judges are not hiding their disunity, imagine the biasness of their judgement whenever cases involving coup related matters are brought before them. Anti-coup judges will be lenient to pro-democracy cases while pro-coup judges will try and find ways to nail them. But having said that, we at WFC are certain that a good number of our judges continue to be professional in their approach by using the 1997 Constitution as the basis of their court decisions.
