Peanuts And Highly Paid Monkeys
FijiTimesOnline reports that the Unions have factionalised badly over the recent controversial ”deal” struck by two of the member unions in Coalition of Public Sector Unions. You can read the story here.
The controversy is not so much that Rajeshwar Singh is viewed by the other Union body FICTU and by one of its own member unions, Fiji Nursing Association, as having engineered the betrayal of FPSA members - that much is already as clear as day!
The controversy is that immediately after that very public betrayal, Rajeshwar Singh has been very publicly rewarded for his role in it.
HnC is of course referring to the appointment of Rajeshwar as the new Chairman of Air Terminal Services Limited.
Rajeshwar of course denied that the appointment was his just reward for betraying his unions brothers, but we all know better. Actions, you see speak much much louder than words ever will.
Attar Singh has already questioned the appointment demanding answers on whether Rajeshwar has any technical experience in the aviation industry or indeed in business management which might justify his appointment.
Of course Attar and the rest of Fiji knows by now that experience and qualification are not necessary prerequisites for appointments to Boards, nowadays.
All that is needed is proven loyalty to the illegal regime or to its leader Mahen… I mean Baini Marama.
Explanations by Rajeshwar that the appointment had actually been made on 4 July and so cannot be connected to the now infamous “deal” is at best mischievous (and at worst down right devious).
To the rest of us, it only confirms that Rajeshwar’s plans to betray his union borthers and sisters had been signed and sealed (at least principle) as early as 4 July.
If Rajeshwar was an honourable man, he would, given the controversy surrounding his appointment, immediately withdraw his acceptance of the Chairmanship position.
But Rajeshwar is not an honourable man.
His actions in the past few weeks have shown that.
At the end of the day, people will not remember Rajeshwar for the good work he might have done over the years as a Unionist.
History will remember him as person who betrayed his union brothers (and sisters) for a bag of peanuts and became a very highly paid monkey in the process.
