Heffernan’s Lawyer Deported

FijiVillage reports that Angie Heffernan’s lawyer Dr John Cameron, a New Zealander, was arrested last night and deported from Fiji. You can read the full story here.

HnC legal sources have confirmed that while this may have been lawful under the Public Emergency Regulations, there is now no way you can remove a person lawfully from the country without first getting a Court Order to that effect. This is expressly provided under the Immigration Act.

Dr Cameron was in the middle of the Heffernan trial which is currently before the Court of Appeal.

This is without a doubt the clearest case of interference exhibited by the this desperate regime.

HnC hopes the EU, USA, NZ, ADB, Australia and UN are taking note of how the IG is continuing to interefere with the course of justice here in Fiji.

It seems the military know they can’t win this case - so they deport the lawyer fighting it. Same tactic they military backed NPAF used to oust the SDL.

I don’t know how much longer this country can afford to suffer these fools.

the Fiji Court of Appeal President, Justice Gordon Ward, who is presiding over the case is reportedly really pissed off and has ordered State lawyers to appear before him at 2:30pm this afternoon to explain why the State unlawfully deported Dr Cameron mid-trial.
