VAYESHNOI GIVING INDIANS A BAD NAME

It is people like Vayeshnoi who are giving Indians a bad name. He continues to justify the fear and mistrust Fijians have of his race. The longer we have them around, the harder it will be for Fijians to fully embrace the reality of a multi-racial Fiji. The IG should realize that its actions of late are rekindling the fires of hatred and violent reactions from Fijians. To many of us this coup has been widely supported by Indians. The comments on this blog and media statements from Indian individuals and organizations openly supporting the IG and even labeling it as a “godsend” will only worsen the deteriorating status quo. I still hold on to the belief that there are still a lot of Indians out there who oppose the regime and these are the people we must seek and build a better Fiji with. We cannot build this nation on the principles of hate, prejudice and intolerance. We cannot build the new Fiji on the divisive and racial rhetoric’s of both the SDL and Labour. There must be a better way for Fiji. As much as we value our cultural systems and differences this nation can still rise above the hurt and pain we have caused each other and build the better and stronger Fiji. We must not be afraid to let go of customs and practices that only hinder our progress as a nation. Somehow we should be learning from the past mistakes of our fore fathers. We should have learnt by now that politicians only use the race card for their selfish needs. We should have learnt the by now that coups only creates a bigger chasm between races and will hurt the perpetrators more in the end. My mataqali is still going around to other parts of Fiji performing ceremonies of ” matanigasau” or “soro” to the families we had wronged during the cannibal days. The hurt and suffering we inflicted on people back then still haunt us today. I believe that if Fijians don’t perform these acts of atonement and seek forgiveness from those they oppressed, we carry the burdens of bad karma and curses for many generations. The bible says as many as seven generations will be cursed for the wrongs of our ancestors. We should have learnt by now that we can still progress as a nation with all races who want to call Fiji as their homeland. We should have learnt that a violent society is doomed. That is the reality of the nightmare we face today. If we do not wake up from this stupor, we may never have the opportunity make Fiji “the way the world should be.” This illegal government has hurt countless numbers of Fiji’s citizens, this illegal government continues to divide us as a people. This illegal regime has brought shame to us a nation state, this illegal government is shaping up to be worst government we have had to endure. It has brought together the worst set of leaders Fiji has ever had the opportunity to manage our affairs, albeit, without our mandate . Bainimarama’s leadership is certainly shaping up to be the worst in Fijian history. With the economy a shambles and trust in the administration dwindling as I write, it is not surprising that more and more people are openly expressing their anger and frustrations at this was a misguided attempt by failed politicians and power hungry individuals not facing up to the reality that there is a time for everything under the sun. The Qaranivalu’s reprieve from jail is surely sending warning signals to the IG that “judgment day” will be sooner than anticipated!
God Bless Fiji.
Tui.
