Strike Looming - And Its About Time Too!

FijiTimesOnline reports that the Confederation of Public Sector Unions have now issued a 28-day Strike Notice. You can read the story here.

The Confederation is made up of the Fiji Public Service Association, Fiji Nursing Association and the Fiji Teachers Union.

Their membership runs into the thousands.

It is therefore no suprise that the IG is concerned at this latest development.

PSC Board Chairman and big time coup supporter Rishi Ram has said that “Fiji cannot afford the strike because the cost is too high”. You can read that story here.

Maybe Rishi Ram should have thought about that before trying to arrogantly impose his boss’s agenda on the workers of this country.

HnC has always believed that, given that all the Unions registered votes of over 90 percent in favour of a strike, the Unions executives have more than just a simple mandate to go on strike - they have a directive by their members to do it.

Why they have waited this long is beyond me.

The military IG must be taught a lesson on how to deal with people.

They need to be taught a lesson on accountablity for the decisions they make.

The Government is not army where you can just give your orders and expect it to be followed.

The impending strike is therefore welcome news to the many workers of this country who have had their rights trampled on by this illegal regime.

And its about time too!
