Revenge On Their Minds

As I was reading the following letter to the editor (FT 27/6) by Pundit Anil Sharma and his partner in crime Nickilesh Kumar, it occured to me that some Indians out there are still very bitter about the 2ooo coup.

The letter reads:-

We refer to the article (FT 20/6) which said overseas countries such as New Zealand and Australia are demanding early elections so that they can resume aid to Fiji.

Where were these countries during the May 2000 coup? The People’s Coalition ministers were then kept hostage for 56 days and they suffered a lot in every aspect.

In comparison, the December 5, 2006, coup is only a clean-up campaign and no minister was harmed.

If these countries really want to help Fiji they should lift sanctions.

If they cannot help Fiji progress, then they should leave us alone.

We ask Laisenia Qarase to stop fighting and wait for the election.

HnC has noticed a tendency for some Indians to compare the suffering of the Fijians in this coup to the suffering of the Indians in the last one.

The point is that everyone suffers in a coup, Fijians and Indians alike.

Some suffer more than others. But at the end of the day, everyone suffers.

I cannot understand therefore why this coup has put some “Indians” in revenge mode.

It would be worthwhile for this Pundit to remember that there were some strong rumours that a few Indian businessmen were the real movers and shakers behind the last coup.

And didn’t the SDL Government offer a traditional apology on behalf of Fijians to Mahendra Chaudhry and Cabinet a couple of years ago.

This “revenge” attitude is becoming a little concerning, especially to the many Fijians I’ve talked to.

Is this also why some Indians seem to be calling this coup a “REVOLUTION”?

What revolution are you talikng about?

HnC has one piece of advice to this Pundit… ka kua ni ko vaka saga na boro ni pi!

Translation: Its not wise to disturb a bees’ nest!
