Young Said No to Interim AG Job
HnC sources have revealed that a former President of the Fiji Law Society, Chen Bun Young, had been approached by the military to be interim Attorney General shortly after the coup.
Young declined the offer because he did not believe in the legality of what they were doing.
It was only after he declined that they went with their back-up, I-Arse Khaiyum.
HnC sources say Khaiyum had offered his services willingly (and volunarily) but the military wanted to see if there were any other more qualified and more experienced (and less desperate) lawyers out there.
Khaiyum’s desperation to be AG had stemmed from the fact that he was on the verge of being sacked by Colonial for incompetence.
This does make you wonder though - how many other lawyers rejected this offer before the military ran out of choices and went with I-Arse?
