VOTE FOR MR GAVOKA
Mr Gavoka was doing a great job even after the December coup. People in the Tourism ministry respect this man and as a senior officer mentioned: he may have been an SDL man, but he did his best to get the TAG team running and secure the NZ and Aussie market after December! This man put his personal feelings aside and pushed to secure the tourism market even though he didn’t believe in the coup and it’s corrupt principles! He suffered as a result, having to deal with Bernie’s ignorance of the market requirements! Bernie’s showing us her real character and it’s not the character i saw before 2005 elections.
back to the point, the man Mr Gavoka put aside his political beliefs and personal agenda to secure the market for Fiji’s tourism because the bottom line is Tourism is what’s going to save Fiji ! not sugar cane, not exports alone!
Being told to resign because he wasn’t playing the ball game Voreqe and Bernie dictated to him has now put Fiji in a whole lot of trouble.
You see, Mahen has been lying to FIji about the possibility of India and China being our tourism market!!! The facts are that FVB and Govt must establish a market in these countries! Establishing it will take at least 8 months if lucky. Getting people to come here means opening up routes. Opening up routes means talking to airline companies that fly near to Fiji. To justify the costs to these airlines to add a route to Fiji, the flow of bookings/pax must be at a level that is financially attractive to the airline. With every new route, any airline will go through a change in financial baseline that depends heavily on the pax bookings.
So for Mahen/Dreadlock Holiday Bernie to say that Air Pacific isn’t doing enough for opening Fiji’s market to China and India they’re just hiding the truth from you people,l or they are just plain ignorant of the above facts.
Air Pacific is heavily dependant on the NZ and Aussie market because their financial planning is based around the predicted profits from these two major markets. the japanese market died out after December with some Air Pac flights from Japan coming in with less then 100 pax. This is the peak time for Fiji, starting now till end of year. Summer in Aussie and school holidays now. Air Pac flights that were usu full are now on 20% bookings if lucky. Air Pac have already closed down flights from NZ/Aus to Suva direct because of the lack of pax. Not financially viable to carry these flights out. Thanks to the expulsion of Mr Green.
Now Chaudhry wants’ Air Pac to use money that it doesn’t have to pay for more fuel and stop overs to fly to China/India. For Air Pac to do that they might be better off sharing a route like they do with Qantas to Aus etc.
Air Pac have already mentioned to Chodo that they tried that years ago with malaysia, and air malaysia said “we’ll get back to you”. and no other airline that air pac approached bothered to get back to Fiji. Why?because if those airlines bring in tourists to Fiji, they could lose their own tourist market !
mahen and bernie have said that India is willing to open air waves to Fiji , but how long will that take ? months/ years?
Now bernie’s wasting time in middle east saying they want to come to Fiji. vaqara holiday you basketballtenniscourt. those from sudan with money won’t want to come to Fiji! they alread have sun and surf there! their main market is Europe! why would Bernie go there twice in last 7 months with nothign to show for it.
Air Pac is already struggling financially with their finances strapped because of their committment to getting in the new boeings! not sure how many or when these are supposed to come in, but i’m sure these factor greatly in their planning. plus the fact that they are recruiting more pilots means they need these pilots with the current flights they already have.
even if Bernie or Chodo managed ot convince an airline to co-share with Air Pac, the costs of those new flights are most prob an overhead that Air Pac doesn’t want to afford right now!
Mahen is lying to the people of Fiji, and now so is Bernie! After Bernie said that FVB pulled their NZ ads cause of lack of money, FVB has come out and cleared the air: http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=65492
MR Gavoka would make an excellent Minister Tourism and is highly respected in the international arena. Something that can not be said for any of these illegal military regime posing as ministers!
